Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Editing DTS Audio Tracks

Post by stephentan » Tue Sep 14, 2010 8:31 am

I have some DTS audio tracks in wav format. I tried using Audacity 1.2.5 to edit them (basically to trim off some gaps) but it doesn't work.

Hoping someone can suggest a way to edit DTS audio tracks.

Thank you.

OK, you've exported or ripped the tracks into WAV format, imported them into Audacity and edited them, right?

You have not edited the original WAV files. After you do the edits you need to Export the result to a new WAV file. See http://manual.audacityteam.org/index.ph ... y_Projects

What Mac and OS X version are you using? You might want to move up to Audacity 1.3.12. http://audacityteam.org/download/beta_mac

Hello Bill

Thanks for your note. I tried using Audacity 1.3.12; exported the file as wav and no, the resultant file doesn't play.

In the first place, Audacity does not play DTS files.

I used VLC to play the track. No problem playing the original (unfixed) DTS track. But VLC "crashed" when I tried to play the amended track.

Hi,
Here's how to edit your wav-dts file:
0.Open in foobar 2000[with dts plugin]..save[convert to] wav[pay attention to keep the same bithrate and bitdept].
1.Load in audacity...edit your 6 waves simultaneously...export as multich. wav[n wave or 'other']-see the user manual.
2.play your multich wav in foobar 2000....just for checking.
3.Demux to 6 mono wavs using tranzgui.
4.Use minnetonka's surcode cd dvd pro to get your dts wav file again!

Enjoy and have a nice day,
M

So you're not actually editing DTS Tracks. You're editing the WAV files that DTS turns into after conversion. The trick will come when you try to put the DTS back. It's not unusual for special characteristics to be included such as voice processing and dynamic management.

It's not just apply a filter and go home -- although it might be close enough for jazz.
