Need the language to search for the answer!

Okay so I don't know a lot about audio editing and as a result I'm having trouble looking for the answer to my problem. I don't know what to search for because I don't know what to call my problem or what I want to do.

I have a recording with 3 voices on a single track. Two voices are too loud, one is just right. All the voices are clear though. I'm in a video editor right now, and I've been manually adjusting the audio level on the track bit by bit, but I'm losing my mind staring at keypoints and feel like there must be a better way. So, is there a way to (with any program on a mac, Audacity or others) to say cap anything that goes over a certain dB? What would you call that? What would you call the problem I have in technical terms so I can google search it? Someone told me I could fix it with Soundbooth but didn't really say what it was I had to do.

What you're looking for is Compression.

Audacity has a Compressor built-in (Effect > Compressor), but many of the experts here also recommend Chris's Compressor

which you can download as a plug-in for Audacity.
When you install it, it will appear as "Compress Dynamics" in the Effect menu.
