Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Recording sound file to macbook pro
I have a macbook pro the only recording preference as far as I can determine is the built in microphone, I wish to record direct an audio file direct from my Yamaha keyboard. Is this possible?

If you look in Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input, you should see two listings. Built-In Audio Input or Line-In in addition to the microphone.
Plug in your keyboard with one of these if you have RCA connections...

You should be able to play the keyboard and the Apple bouncing ball sound meter should bounce. Open Audacity and set 'Built-In Audio' in Audacity Preferences. Then restart Audacity. That's it. You should be able to record the keyboard performance.
If, like me, you only have the keyboard headphone out, it's a little more involved. Let me know.
