Installing/downloading for Mac0Sx

I am not very computer savvy (obviously, from my next question), but could someone help me understand how to install Audacity.
I downloaded the file and that was OK, my problem came after following the instructions on line, which were to 'create a folder called Audacity in the Applications folder. That worked fine.
It was the next section where I was asked to double click the downloaded.dmg to mount it, then option drag the whole of the .dmg contents into the 'audacity' folder. I cannot seem to get anything to drag in.
Any help greatly appreciated.
