Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

1.2.5 crashes on recording (OSX 10.4.5)

Post by radioelasais » Sun Mar 02, 2008 8:21 am

Ciao

I am new to the board and to audacity. I have a macbookpro/intel and I just installed version 1.2.5 and I am trying to learn how to use audacity. But, herr... it crashes as I hit the record button. In my prefs I set:

-built-in mic and line in but it crashes anyway
-mono
-48kHz sample rate/24bit
-aiff 16bit

No applications are running, just audacity.

Thanks for the help
Gianluca

Try using 48000 / 16 bit
A lot of people with Macs seem to have problems with 24 bit and reducing it to 16 bit will have very little effect on the final quality of your recordings.

Now, it's working. 48kHz/32bit. Thanks. It seems 24bits recording drives my macbook pro to crash no matter what sampling freq I am using.

I am recording a radio streaming via soundflowerbed (directly onto audacity) and every now and then I get clicks and pops. Do you think its the streaming or should I look at audacity/soundbedflower?

Using 32 bit will create twice as much data as 16 bit. It could be that your hard drive is struggling to keep up. Try 16 bit and see if that's any better.
