Removing Pops, Clicks, And Noise From Vinyl

Hello. I am recording vinyl records to mp3s. I've got the hang of it, but I would like to remove as much of the pops, clicks, and other noises associated with vinyl records, as I can. I see under "Effects" there is a "Click Removal" and a "Noise Removal", but none of the options under "Effects" are highlighted, so I can't click on them. How do I use these (or other) options? I'm on a newer intel imac, with Tiger. Thanks.

Effects tools become available after you select some audio.

I too am getting the hang of Audacity on Windows XP, but I am also having trouble with EFFECTS. EFFECTS are grey, and I cannot activate them. I am listening to Audio when I am trying. Very frustrating, please help.

Jist as Koz says above - all you need to do, Ian, is to select the portion of Audio you want the effect applied to (CTRL-A to select the whole track) - and the the effects should no longer ge greyed-out. Audacity defaults to nothing selected - hence the grey.
