Original track + one track to record on

Is it possible to set up Audacity to have a master track and have just one track to record on, stop recording on that track and resume on the same track where you left off? I'm thinking of using this in a language lab setting. I don't want a new track which always starts at the beginning. I would like the second track to coordinate with the master track.

Audacity creates a new track each time you stop and start recording again (but not if you "pause" and resume).
In Audacity 1.3 new tracks are still created, but the recording starts at the current position. You can also select whichever tracks you want (all except your "master" track) and mix them down to a single track.

I'd suggest that you have a play with v.1.3 and see if it will meet your requirements.
