Error Message When Export .wav to .mp3 (wav from PhoneValet)

I use PhoneValet to record interviews in .wav format. (Other option is .aif)

The files come in to Audacity okay, but when I export to .mp3 I get this error code and the program locks up:
Assertion (gfc->mf_size <= MFSIZE) failed in "lame.c" on line 1501

Phone Valet support thinks it's an Audacity problem. Any ideas anyone? I have to have .mp3 to successfully upload to Studio.Odeo. Thanks!

There may be multiple contributers.

Download the piano trill from here:

...load it into QuickTime, Press Apple-I (info) and read what it says. Now open up one of your PhoneValet files, open in QuickTime, etc. and read what that says. How different are they?

The piano trill is a perfectly record Windows WAV file at 48000/16-bit. I use it as the standard when I can't figure out a problem. The piano trill does export to MP3, right?
