recording a DJ mix through SERATO ???!

i am trying to figure out why or what is wrong with the way I setup my recording a live mix using SERATO on AUDACITY :

I can record it fine but the problems I'm having is with the quality, levels of my recording and the connections :

I use SERATO and connect my signal with a DJ mixer and a CD recorder.

I use The CD recorder so I can get a signal OUT as that's the way I have my cables setup so I can hear the signal through..

Anyone using SERATO and a PB who has any info on how to setup recording ?

I've been trying to fix the levels but I get either a weak signal with lots of background noises or too much vol and clipping.

Any tips are much appreciated !!

Thanx !

M.

<<<I get either a weak signal with lots of background noises or too much vol and clipping.>>>

Right-Brain, First Impression: The low level thing is you connecting to the PowerBook's built-in microphone. I can't tell you how many people do that by accident and make it through a whole recording only to find their live phone conversation ordering pizza mixed in with "Benny Goodman In Stockholm."

The other setting was probably correct except you have the record levels set way too high. If you open up the Mac Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input. What's is it pointing to? Whatever that is, that's what the Audacity Default Device is going o get.

Serato seems to be a software package of some kind, right?

Just a note: Never abbreviate and never assume the answer service knows everything about your system or software--especially if you're using something odd. I work with all three platforms on multiple forums and the only reason I know what a "PB" is is that I happen to own one.
