Samson Q1U Microphone
Can someone please help me?? I just bought my 2nd Samson Q1U mike and for some reason when I'm recording with a filter, you almost have to yell into the mike to get any volume at all...I can't record this way. Apparently this mike isn't like my last one. I've gone through the directions and can't fix it. Any suggestions??? Thanks in advance.

Re: Samson Q1U Microphone
Samson makes a number of nice microphones. What was your last one?
Did this one come with a software package? Is there an updated driver on the Samson web site? USB microphones have to record low volume because overload and clipping is obvious, fatal, and permanent. Low volume is easily fixible in Audacity or other editing program.
Some microphones got out of the factory with really low volume and that can sometimes be changed in software.

What sort of filter? If you use a standard pop and blast filter...

...it doesn't affect the volume at all.

Re: Samson Q1U Microphone
i found several places that claim to affect mike volumebandit wrote:Can someone please help me?? one in audacity two in control panels list
two in windows sound recorder
there may be more lurking
unmuted all and maxed the volume on each that i found
now my mike is clipping on soft sounds
if you can find these places then make sure they are not muted
and the volume control is up to 80% or so to start with
you should be able to hear the mike then
Re: Samson Q1U Microphone
It is usually the case that neither the Windows volume control, nor the Audacity volume control have any effect on USB microphones. Some USB microphones have a special "applet" for adjusting the "sensitivity" of the microphone. (Some USB microphones have an actual volume control on the microphone itself).
