Removed vocals, but doesn't save!!!

So, I followed the instructions on splitting the tracks, inverting the bottom one and then turning them both to mono. For the most part, it worked, save a few instruments lacking and the vocals echoing in the background. I next recored myself singing as the song was playing. After I was finished, everything played back fine. I saved the project. When I went to reopen the project, all the settings were intact. The top two on mono and my recoding on stereo. Except, it plays the song normally and I can't even hear my recording. :/ I'm not sure how that happened or how to fix it.

<<<save a few instruments lacking and the vocals echoing in the background.>>>
Vocal Removal takes out anything in the middle including, usually, bass and drums. Stereo vocal effects weren't in the middle, so they didn't go.

That I wouldn't do. Convert the music back to normal Stereo (really two track mono) and then put your new stereo vocals back in.
I would also Export As WAV and Save Project after the conversion step and then continue with the production. The way you did it, anything that goes wrong trashes the whole show and sends you back to square one.
It's also possible that you wired your microphone wrong and it's cancelling out, too. What kind of microphone and how is it wired?

Thanks.

When you say "convert the music back to normal stereo" do you mean put the top on back on left and the bottom one back on right, or do you mean delete the bottom one that i inverted and fix the top one? And, after that how do I put my vocals back in? lol. (I'm computer illiterate).
<<What kind of microphone and how is it wired?>>
I'm just using my built in microphone on my macbook....I don't think I did anything to it...at least as far as I know....
Thanks for your help!!

Another thing that's wierd: I recored about 5 different ones of the same song. They all played back differently after recording. Two did what I previously stated, just played the original song and my recording didn't come on. Another one played back all of the instrumentals with the left over vocals that you mentioned and my recording heard perfectly clearly. Another played my singing in the left ear (of my headphones) and the song in the other. I had done nothing differently before saving them or after opening them. (just a side note).

Did you have multiple projects open at the same time? This can cause weird things to happen, particularly in Audacity 1.2.x. All of the recorded data exists as a heap of hundreds or thousands of little data files in the temporary folder and it's possible that they can get mixed up. This should not be a problem in Audacity 1.3 but I prefer to just run one project at a time.
