You're a Linux jockey and you want me to explain executable code to you?
What's wrong with this picture?

Re: LameLib
Yes, well, before you leave, if you had to design code that would do that, how would you do it?
I personally consider it a bug, by the way. I'm sure some programmer stayed up nights making it do that, but it's been burning people right and left ever since. Final Cut video editing software has some of the same problems. If you import an MP3 audio file into Final Cut, it will seem to work. Weeks later, when you go to export your finished show to videotape or other product, it turns into a great steaming pile of garbage and it will stay that way until you remove the MP3 file.
If it's not going to work with unconditional stability, make it stop. Half-way measures suck to use a programming term.

Re: LameLib
I am a new Audacity user and was also having difficulties with the LameLib. I am on an Intel MacBook Pro running the latest version of Leopard, 10.5.3. While trying to build libmp3lame.dylib, I would get an error message: unable to write to en.lproj. I eventually scrolled through the libmp3lame-osx-universal-3.97 folder and there I found libmp3lame.dylib buried in the package/usr/local/lib directory. After moving this to the Audacity folder, I was able to export mp3 files to iTunes with no problem.
I hope this helps some the Leopard users.

You need to produce an MP3 music file from your Audacity show?
If you Export your show to MP3 [File > Export to MP3] does the program tell you to find the lame file?
Let's get you that far first.

Re: LameLib
Hello, just started using Audacity 1.2.6 on my OSX 10.4.11 and I'm trying to export files as MP3.
Audacity asks me to find LameLib. I find it, but when I try to open it I get this error message:
The encoder could not be opened.
I tried renaming the file to LameLib after I downloaded it, and it got me that far.
Without renaming the file, my Mac wouldn't recognize it as a file to open.
that's all, thanks for your help.

Re: LameLib
I think you may have the wrong LameLib.iancjvoice wrote: I tried renaming the file to LameLib after I downloaded it
Go to this page: http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/
You will see:
For Audacity 1.2.6 on Mac OS X (PPC):
LameLib-Carbon.sit <<--- this is the one you want.
The .sit file should unzip when you double-click it, or you may need Stuffit Expander. When you unstuff it you will get a file named "LameLib". Drag that file to your Applications folder. Now launch Audacity, go to Preferences > File Formats click on the Find Library button, etc.
