Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

USB Microphone

Post by graemetw » Tue Oct 13, 2009 9:13 pm

Hi

Please tell me how to get feed from a USB microphone. My only input options from Audacity are Built-in Microphone and from Built-in Input. But when I plug in a USB Mic, and switch to it in my System Preferences, Audacity does not register the mic at all.

Appreciate any help.

Love the product, but I need a better Mic, and MacBook Pro's don't support In Line Mics.

Cheers
Graeme

Close everything.

Plug in the microphone.

Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Audio > Input. Select the microphone and make sure the sound level meter bounces when you talk.

Close the panel.

Launch Audacity and...

Audacity > Preferences > Audio I/O and another panel I forgot. Set for 44100, 16-bit, Mono. [OK]

I'm using Audacity 1.3 because Intel Macs with Leopard or Snow Leopard do not support Audacity 1.2. That's important.

You can get a well behaved Audacity 1.3.7 from here...

Audacity 1.3.7 -- Mac
http://audacity.googlecode.com/files/au ... -1.3.7.zip

... or go up to the download site and get the current 1.3.
