Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Problems Saving

Post by mess » Thu Oct 01, 2009 3:25 pm

Yesterday I started having a problem when I open a new project and try to save initially. When I try to name my new project, typing in the "Save As" box activates the keyboard commands in the program (ex: if I enter "memory" as the project name, the "r" in memory activates record in the project). Any ideas? Is there a very basic setting I'm missing? This just started happening...

Are you sure you're using version 1.2.x? This is a known issue in 1.3.x but has only been reported when typing text into labels.

"Label tracks: typing "j" or"k" in a label may activate the "move cursor" shortcut instead.
Not reproducible to order, but very likely to occur with large numbers of labels in a track. Once it occurs, typing "j" or "k" in any label in that track will move the cursor to start/end of the track."

Do you have multiple project windows open?

In any case, the workaround is to go to Keyboard Preferences and disable/change the keyboard shortcuts that use unmodified keys, such as ""R", "J", "K" and "Z" (and possibly others).

Thanks for the workaround!
In answer to your questions, I'm using version 1.2.5 and running OS X 10.5.8. I only have one project window open.

If you're on a newer Intel Mac with Leopard or Snow Leopard (10.5, 10.6), then there is no stable Audacity 1.2 for you or us. Other incompatibilities and instabilities will show up as you use the program.

Trash the program from /Applications and the Preferences file...

Download and install current Audacity 1.3, or, since that version is still experiencing growing pains, I use a slightly older Audacity 1.3.7 from here for day to day production.

You know you got a good, clean install when it asks you "English?" when it launches. That should immediately clear up the hot key problems and forestall other version problems. Try your already downloaded lame if you have it, but if you can't get it to work, then pull the new one down from here...

You'll need to put any special preferences in again because this process cleans everything out.

Enjoy,

Koz
