Whenever I try to play an audio file in Audacity 1.2.6, with an Ecco Audiofire 2 audi interface as my choice of playback device, I get this message; Error while opening sound device. Please check the output device settings and the project sample rate.

I have played audio previously though now it wont work. Please help.

I would check the output device settings and the project sample rate - they should match.

In the Finder, click on Preferences > Sound and set the Audiofire to 44100, 16-bit, 2 channels. If you can't do this from the Sound Control Panel, click on Go > Utilities and open Audio Midi Setup - you should be able to access all the relevant setting for the Audiofire from there.

Open Audacity and click on Preferences > Quality and set the sample rate to 44100 and the sample format to 16-bit.

I'd really recommend upgrading Audacity to 1.3.9.

Funnily enough, I tried all those above suggestions with the 1.2.6 version and still got the same message. Then once i downloaded the 1.3.9 version it worked straight away. Now everying is much BETA.

Not so funny. If you have a modern Mac; Intel/Leopard or Snow Leopard, there is no Audacity 1.2 for us.
