Which version should I use? I'm trying with 1.2.5, but when I export files as AIFF to the desktop, they are put in iTunes automatically it seems, thanks.

You should be using Audacity 1.3.9
I can't help you with iTunes - I never use it, but maybe someone else can.

Your Mac likes to open music up in its natural media player which is iTunes. You can stop that from happening by being specific about the application.
Right Click the file > Open With.. > QuickTime Player (or whatever).
Control-Click the file > Open With.. > QuickTime Player (or whatever).
Select the file > File > Open With.. > QuickTime Player (or whatever).
No shortage of ways to do that.
As of Mac/Intel/Leopard and higher, Macs no longer support Audacity 1.2. I personally use Audacity 1.3.7 for almost everything...

Audacity 1.3.9 is the latest and greatest release...and has no track record.

As per advice on this forum, downloaded 1.3.7
Am using an iMac Intel and have Snow Leopard installed.
Running a Sony TC-TX313 cassette deck.
Have set controls as per instructions.
BUT a) I get no sound through my built in speakers, and b) the quality of output is muffled, grainy and the intensity jumps all over the place.
Can anyone advice me on a good set of basic settings that I could try? Offer any sage advice?
Tx

Please note that I didn't say anything about Snow Leopard. My Snow Leopard license is on the credenza in the shrink wrap (the disk, not the credenza) waiting for me to open it.
It doesn't always pay to be The First On Your Block. Let me know if you get it working.
