Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Export as WAV as a menu item

Post by dfb23 » Tue Sep 01, 2009 1:24 am

Apologies if this is asked and answerewd--I couldn't find it via the search function.

I'm a former user of Audacity 1.2.x on Windows, now using 1.3.8 on MAC OS X Leopard.

In Audacity 1.2.x, there were "Export as WAV" and "Export as MP3" entries under the File menu. In 1.3.8, I'm not seeing them. Are they gone?

Also, I don't see entries for those on the keyboard shortcuts list--I wouldn't care about the menu entries if I could make a keyboard shortcut. Is there any way to do that?

In Audacity 1.3

1) File > Export... >
2) Add information tag information in the metadata editor if you want to, then Click OK.
3) Select the file format that you want
4) Navigate to the directory where you want to Export to
5) Enter a file name
6) Some formats have additional options that you can select by clicking on the "Options" button
7) Click "Save"

If you want to miss out step 2
Go to Edit > Preferences > Import/Export
Uncheck "Show metadata editor prior to export".

Right--I know that. Sorry if I was unclear about what I was after.

I'm trying to have as convenient a way of exporting items as WAV files in 1.3.8 as I had in 1.2.x. Is there any way, for example, to assign a keystroke to exporting as a WAV file? I could do so in 1.2.x, and so I'm surprised not to be able to find a way to do it in 1.3.8.

You can set up a keyboard shortcut for "Export". The file type will be set to whatever you used last.

Thanks--that should work. Just to be sure, though, that means there's no longer a way to set up one shortcut (say, CTRL-ALT-OPTION-w) for "Export as WAV" and another (say, CTRL-ALT-OPTION-m) for "Export as MP3"?

That's correct, though unlike Audacity 1.2, in Audacity 1.3, switching from WAV Export to MP3 Export is just a matter of clicking on the File Type button, and if you want to change the MP3 compression settings, you only need to click on the Options button rather than digging around in Audacity Preferences.
