removing a label

I am new to Audacity.
I was splitting my recording into separate "tracks" with labels and when I went to generate a silence at my last track, all of my labels disappeared!
I patiently redid my labeling and when deleting a long space between two selections (after labeling) I found my label out of sync with the beginning of the selection.
I tried to click on the label to remove it, but try as I can, I cannot "focus" it.
Is there any way to either move a label to reposition it or a way to delete it?

Thanks,
David

The labels are their own track and aren't really "glued" to the show. You shouldn't change the show after you put the labels in.

However,

Your problem, I'll bet, is Audacity 1.2. If you have Mac/Intel/Tiger, you should be on Audacity 1.2.5. If you have Mac/Intel/Leopard, you should be on Audacity 1.3. There is no Audacity 1.2 for us.

So, what's your machine like? Apple > About This Mac.

Thank you for the reply.
I am using a G5 1.8 ghz power pc with 1 gb and 10.4.11
I understand that the label track is separate; I can't seem to isolate that track to edit or delete a label.
Am I doing something wrong? Or is it a problem with the 1.2 version?

Audacity 1.2.5 is for the Intel machines, not the PowerPC G machines.

Sorry, I made an error,I have 1.2.6 v.

I did manage to find out why I could not edit my label track: going back to the beginning of the project I noticed that the first label had disappeared,
why or how I do not know, but upon re-entering it the label track became editable again and I was able to remove and replace the unwanted labels.

By the way, do you recommend my upgrading to a later version with my system?

Thank you for your help,
David

Since you're working OK with the current version, I would stick with it.

Version 1.3 has much better production tools and conveniences. You can put both on your machine as long as you don't use them at once. Audacity 1.3 projects will not open in 1.2

If you need noise reduction, for example, the only real working one is in 1.3. File Export dialogs in 1.3 are at the export step, in 1.2 they're buried in the Preferences.
