Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
Mac 0S X 10.3 and earlier are no longer supported but you can download legacy versions of Audacity for those systems HERE.

Splitting tracks - please help....
...thanks. Basically I record a side of an album, then view it as a large 'squashed' wave form containing the individual tracks, but I've forgotten how to place the 'split' in between tracks, I tried the cursor and flag but can't see the quiet gap between tracks. I did it fine a couple of years ago but don't remember how I did it!

All you need to do is to place a label at each track break - use the Ctrl-B shortcut - and don't forget to place a label right at the beginning for the first track.
Then use Audacity's Export Multiple command (available from the File drop-down) to export a multiple set of WAVs, MP3s or whatever.
The Audacity Wiki, Documentation and Tutorials have much useful information on how to do this - a recommended read - http://audacityteam.org/help/
In particular see: http://wiki.audacityteam.org/index.php? ... ate_tracks

Re: Splitting tracks - please help....
Thanks, problem is I can't 'see' the track break when looking at the large, congested waveform, can I do it while recording?

Yes, you can put down a marker (which is essentially a label. In Windows it's CTRL+M (I'm not sure what the MAC equivalent is - Apple-M ??)
But that may give you inaccurate label positioning. What you really need to do is to learn how to use the zoom controls to zoom in annd out on the waveforms. There are four icons in the zoom toolbar with magnifying glass images. From left to right: the + zooms out (magnifies), the - zooms in, the next one fits your current selectioin to the work window and the last one fits your entire project to the work window. There are also keyboard amd mouse shortcuts to operate the zoom.
