Hi all,

I've followed the instructions for the 2-3 possible ways of muting vocals on an mp3 but to no avail. After splitting the audio tracks it looks like everything is split between the two (i.e. there isn't a vocal track and an instrumental track, but rather each L/R track plays to its respective speaker). Given this, is there any way to mute the vocals from either/both tracks or to at least silence them as much as possible? I read something about frequency adjustment, but wasn't able to determine how to do this in the program itself.

Vocal removal, isolation, and management almost never works. The show has to be in Stereo, not two channel mono, or worse one channel mono, it has to not be in MP3 or other compressed format, and the voice has to not have stereo effects, echo, or enhancement.

That leaves, what, four songs ever recorded?

The only absolutely, positively, surefire way to manage vocals is to have access to the original studio recording multi-channel tapes or captures.

There has been some work done with a variation on the Noise Reduction software, but even that has problems. Either the instruments or the voice has to appear at least once by itself, and it still doesn't work with compressed MP3.
