Changing Input Source

This may be a stupid question, but how do I change the mic source from the little built-in one on my Mac to a separate USB microphone? I plugged it in but the pulldown menu for source still just says Default Input Source as the only option. Thanks for any help!

How did you do that? I always spell "separate" wrong when I type it.

Anyway, you need to tell your Mac what you did. Apple > System Preferences > Hardware > Sound > Input.

You may need to change Audacity Preferences, too.

That's the straight-line path. Default Input Device can stay where it is.

There's a more complex but comprehensive path available in Go > Utilities > Audio Midi Setup. This is a supervisiry panel and will change the System Preferences for you -- but it's a bit harder to understand.
