[RESOLVED] Increase volume without clipping?

Post by AviUser » Fri May 15, 2009 2:05 pm

Hi,

Sorry if this is a noob question, but my audio file is too quiet when exported to a .wav file.
But when I play it in Audacity, the audio volume is higher and the quality is really good.
What I want is for my exported .wav file to be high quality and louder.
I've tried:
1. Amplifying with clipping (leads to horrible audio quality)
2. Gaining the audio, which also leads to horrible audio quality:

3. Putting up the volume of my speakers, which doesn't lead to horrible quality, but doesn't solve my problem because I will be using this audio in a video to be given to others.

Anybody have any solutions?

Thanks.

Have you tried using the Amplify effect?

Just select all the audio (CTRL+A will select the left - as will clicking in the Track Control Panel). The use Effect > Amplify - it will calculate a default level to get you to 0db, but personally I would choke that back a little to say -6db. Then do your WAV export.

Whoops. Sorry, seems there was no problem in the first place

It just turns out that Vista decided to make the audio volume for my media player very quiet.

Thanks anyways.
