I downloaded the "Lame for Audacity" lame_enc.dll file and installed it on a Windows XP laptop and Audacity was able to use it to save my project in MP3 format.
On another Windows XP laptop, I told Audacity where the file was (after installation) and got the error message that the MP3 plugin was not found! But I can view it with Windows Explorer, so I know the file exists. Audacity can't seem to open it or recognize its location.
Both laptops should be using Audacity 1.2.6.
Any ideas why the lame_enc.dll is fine for one laptop but not is not accepted on the other?
Thanks,
Mike

Re: lame_enc.dll not recognized by Audacity
There are many different versions of Lame - you may even have several different versions on your computer. You need to ensure that Audacity is accessing the correct one.
If you suspect the file may be corrupt, download it again by following the links on the main Audacity website.

Re: lame_enc.dll not recognized by Audacity
I had the same problem running Audacity/lame_enc on two machines, an old one and a brandnew one, both XP. It worked on the old one, but lame_enc wasn't recognized at the new one (oh yeah, it was there!). Don't know why but it worked 3 days later. maybe because of some registry cleanings (tried some tools) or because my son changed something in making his Ipod work. Good luck!
