If you are using Vista, you will probably need to enable it in the Vista Control Panel

Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O tab
Select the headset as the recording and playback device.

Is it a USB headset?
If so, ensure that the headset is connected and recognised by Windows before you open Audacity.

Hey, I just downloded and opened Audacity on my WIN XP Pro. Also my drop down menu in audacity is grey so i cant click it to enable input devices. I set preferences Audio I/O as Realtek HD Audio output and Input. Channels 2(stereo). I tryed many times, also shuting off & on my PC. The drop down menu in audacity is always grey. Do you have any suggestion ?

Use the Windows Mixer, or the Realtek control panel to select the input rather than Audacity.
