Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

clicks n pops

Post by fugi1967 » Tue May 12, 2009 3:06 pm

Hi

I am new to audacity and your forums, but have tried to find a solution. Apologies if this has been asked before. I was using the latest Beta and reverted to the last stable version to see if my problem went but it hasn't, its perhaps worse now!I am using an acer aspire laptop with windows xp on it. I am trying to record a bbc radio 2 iplayer feed. As soon as I press record I get clicking and pops (it is clean before). As I say it appears to be worse in the stable version. Any thoughts appreciated.

The "stable" version is rather old now and is due to be replaced soon with Audacity 1.4 (based on Audacity 1.3).

Try recording at a different sample rate. For recording an internet broadcast there is no point recording any higher than 44.1/48kHz 16 bit. Try minimising the browser during recording. Ensure that you have up-to-date flash plug-in installed. Try using Firefox rather than Internet Explorer.

Hi

Thanks for your reply, I already do the suggestions you made. As the noise only happens when the record button is pressed could noises be picked up by the processor or on board sound card?

Regards

You may be picking up sound from a built in microphone. Check that the microphone is muted in the Windows Mixer (or disable it in the Windows Control Panel).
