Audacity and LAME software caused system crash

I do not recommend Audacity or LAME software, it is very spamware like. We installed for my daughter's college project, and it was like spamware and took over our entire computer. I was concerned when we saw that the hourglass would not go away, but my daughter really needed to record for a project so I let it go, bad news. As a result, we had to do a hard PC recovery and lost all of our personal data. Has anyone else experienced this? This has taught us an important lesson to get an external backup hard drive. My advice is stay away from freeware such as Audicity, not good for us.

Well I'm very surprised. I've used Audacity for 3 years or so now without any problems like this. And there are many other users around the world - Audacity is a highly recommended program by mavy people.

Are you sure that it is Audacity that you got? Where did you get it from? I note from your other posting that you had problems removing "Audacity" - did you follow the advice I gave you there?

And yes, a good plan to buy an external disk for data backups - I actually have four of them sitting in the cupboard above my workstation. You can buy a huge 1TB external dive now for UK£60-70 from Amazon UK - godd value consiering how important your data probably is. Ideally one should consider keeping an off-site backup copy too (in say a friend's house - or stored in your cupboard) so if you get burgled or the house catches on fire than you have a safe copy elsewhere.
