Export does not work

I'm a new user of Audacity... can't get export to work. Got the audio in ok, and labelled tracks. Select "export to FLAC" and get an error message like : "unable to export audio to ... path/fn". Doesn't seem to matter what directory I try to write to, still get this message. Export to WAV works fine. Any clues where am I going wrong?

None of my Audacities have "Export to FLAC.."
How did you do that? What Audacity version are you using?

further research tells me that the current stable version has export flac as an option, but it is not working. The beta code version says it is supposed to not only be an option... but also work!

FLAC isn't a default export format. You had to enable it from Preferences, File Formats.
Yes, it doesn't work on Windows machines unless you recompile it from the source code. Or jump to Beta version 1.3.
