HELP!Long Time Audacity User! Can't Get It Work!

I love Audacity. I know Audacity works because it was working beautifully before I was forced to do a "Destructive Recovery'" for Vista. Yet, with all that i have tried I can't this damn thing working again. I've installed RealTek High Definition Audio 6.0.1.578/Audacity 1.2.6, restarted a million times, enabled, disabled the Real Tek folder.
I keep getting this message despite having checked, rechecked the Audacity settings to make sure it matches up with the Real Tek configuration but nothing seems to work.
Error while opening sound device. Please check the input device settings and the projects sample rate.
Does this have anything to do with the recording device. Because I am unable to configure the recording device as it is now. The recording device configuration button is inactive.
Any assistance on this matter is greatly appreciated. Please!
