Exported recording won't play in iTunes or WMP
Hey all, I am new to Audacity, but I like it already. I am working with a friend of mine to convert his music from reels over to digital. We are using Edirol's UA-1EX to get the music into Audacity. Audacity records it fine and it will playback what it just recorded; however, when I go to export it, it will not play in Windows Media Player or iTunes. Instead of the audio we heard in Audacity, we just hear silence. I have exported the recorded audio as a WAV and mp3, but neither of them work. Anyone have any suggestions for why this is happening and what changes I need to make? I assume it is a settings issue, but I have been scouring the documentation, wiki, and these forums, but have not come up with much. Any help would be much appreciated!!

Re: Exported recording won't play in iTunes or WMP
I would try setting Audacity to stereo (2-channel), Project Rate 44.1kHz and 16-bit (go to Edit>Preferences, the Quality and Audio I/O tabs for this)- and for export to WAV export as 16-bit PCM stereo (In 1.2.x go to Edit>Preferences, the File Formats tab for this - in 1.3 it is handled a little differently, at the time of export rather than a preference setting).
Once you get the WAVs working we can then think about the MP3s.
BTW are you exporting the whole LP or side of an LP as a single track - or are you using track labels and using Export Multiple to create multiple tracks?

Re: Exported recording won't play in iTunes or WMP
I will try that the next time I see my friend. In answer to the question you asked, I just recorded a small section of a reel. This was more of a test run to see if Audacity would work and it did. I decided then that I would try to turn it into an mp3 or wav. Thank you for your help!

MP3 is a final product delivery format. It's small, but it causes damage. WAV is a production format. It causes no damage and is perfect for effects and editing. If you try editing with MP3, the damage, which you can never eliminate, will multiply.
