HELP!!! - Error while opening sound device

Hi All, I'm a newbie so forgive me but I have loaded audacity onto my PC which runs Winows XP ( ihave a fission USB turntable).
After loading i get the following message when trying to record:

Error while opening sound device.Please check the input device settings and the project sample rate.

Can anyone help me to be able to record my old vinyl??

Thanks so much for your prompt & sageadvice Gale. The manufacturer's instructions didn't provide the advice you did. I'm now up & running. Yay!!!Thanks for your time (& apologies for any transgression of forum decorum)!
