There is automatic distortion when i try to record.

I have a mixer pluged into computer to record vinyls but there is very loud distortion. It is not the volume settings as i have tried and changed them all and even when the vinyls are not playing and i record a clip there is very loud distortion.
I think it might be the leads connecting mixer and computer but not sure wondering if anyone knows anything useful?? thanks.

You are plugged into the Microphone In on your laptop, yes? Beside the problem that the connection is mono, not stereo, it's also expecting a sound level about a thousand times quieter than the one you're feeding it, and you usually can't control it, so that's your overload.

Some computers have tools that let you switch the one sound input between Stereo High-Level and Mono Low-Level. Read your instructions.

If you're on a deskside machine, you may just have plugged into the wrong connector. Windows Deskside machines tend to have all the types of connections available.

Failing all that, then you may be a customer for a USB audio adapter.
