Hi everyone,
Basically, I'm trying to record a Skype conversation by using Audacity. I've purchased the Zoom H2 audio recorder and set this up as an audio interface to my laptop. The mic is working fine but I'm having a hard time understanding how to have audacity pick up both my voice and the audio coming from my machine/skype.
My laptop has a basic Sigmatel Audio driver and having plugged in my USB H2 mic, I get an "H2 wave in" and "H2 wave out" listed in Audacity. No matter how hard I try, I can't seem to find a configuration where Audacity is recording from both my laptop sound and the input from the mic.
Is it possible I need to get a cable to connect the line out to the line in on my laptop so that Audaciy can record what I hear from Skype?
Anyone know how I can do this, or has managed to do this before using a similar setup?
Many thanks in advance,
Martin.

You didn't tell us anything about your computer.
Typically you only do this trick with the manufacturer's own software package or the full license of Pamela. In order to get Skype to work at all, the software grabs the computer sound services firmly and doesn't let go. It has to take over both directions, too, so that doesn't leave a lot left over for capture. There are no computer sound channels left over.
I don't remember anybody ever finding a really good way around this. Advanced Search the forum for Skype and Vonage.

You would benefit from purchasing an inexpensive mixer.
You could then run sound input and output from your laptop to the mixer and connect the mixer output to your H2 (this may vary according to the brand of mixer you purchase).
Then connect a microphone to the mixer, connect your earphones to the H2 output jack to monitor and your ready to go!
I use this arrangement for my podcast, and it has worked well.
