AUDACITY NOT RECORDING

Good afternoon. I'm a visually impaired Audacity user. I recently installed Audacity and have been able to record and save several music and sound cassettes, however Audacity has suddenly stopped recording. On trying to record nothing happens. The cassette player is working fine so I think that the difficulty stems from either Audacity or something else on my PC. I'd recently tried to install a plug-in, (while on the BBC website) for Windows Media Player and was wondering whether this could have affected anything.
I'm using Windows XP and screenreading software (Jaws 10). Any help gratefully received in resolving this issue.
Many thanks,

I too am having this problem - it SHOWS the recording, but does not play. I am using a RODE podcaster. Even uninstalled 1.2.6 and tried the Beta version with the same result...HELP!

Well, figured out my problem - it IS recording but unable to playback when podcaster is plugged in - my system thinks podcaster is the sound output device....

You obviously plugged in a USB device - as they say "they all do that sir" (foxed me too when I first plugged in my USB turntable).
Glad you got it sorted,
WC

Ver. 1/3.x loaded onto a Vista machine with lots of drive space and lots of memory.
It will NOT recognize my Rode Podcaster # 0003823 mike. I used the same mike successfully on an earlier computer in XP, no problem. The mike (a USB configured machine) worked perfectly well then, and I can hear that it's doing its thing thru my headphones now, but the program does NOT record anything when activated.
What to do? Who do I call at Audacity to get some help.
Thanks.
