I came across a pretty neat program that has helped me see which processes are running and completely kill those I don't need or want. I had come across it in a discussion forum somewhere in which someone described it as "Task Manager on Steroids". It seems much better at identifying which programs are running which processes that Task Manager. It's a free program, but unfortunately, Microsoft bought the company out. Hopefully it wasn't to take some of the teeth out of some of its capabilities, such as the ability to see which programs were doing what.kozikowski wrote:<<<When I start in on a new project Audacity runs fine for a while >>>
I"m thinking memory leak, but that's pretty exotic and I get in trouble every time I do that. ...

It really helped me identify which programs were being the memory hogs and to kill them if I didn't need them freeing up needed memory.
If interested, you can apparently still download it here: http://www.snapfiles.com/get/processexplorer.html
Here is a Digg discussion of it which came up when I googled "Task Manager on Steroids": http://www.digg.com/software/Task_Manager_on_Steroids Their link for the download no longer works, though, probably because of the Windows buyout.
