I have downloaded the latest version of Audacity. (1.2.6. I think)! but when I try to monitor as I am recording I get reverb. which ruins the recording. It as if my mike is on and picking up the sound from my speakers. I have checked and my mike is de-activated so I am stuck. Will be really pleased to have some help with this as I really enjoy using the programme.
Thanks

This happens when you have the wrong sound pathways open which is easy to do in Windows.
Here's a piece on how to record harmony to yourself...

...and another piece on running the Windows Control Panel...
Windows Control Panel

Windows machines traditionally have two different sound panels, record and playback, and it's possible to get recursive pathways and unintentional feedback with no effort. It's also possible to get surprises. I want to edit a sound file but I can't figure out how to turn off the Live Input from a radio tuner. Again, different control panels.
I know how it works on my Windows machines and I still get stuck here and again.
There is also a setting inside Audacity Preferences (Audio I/O) that can set some of those options, too.
