Audacity combined with Fruity Loops cause problems

Alright, here's my problem. I have a compaq notebook with a Windows Vista Basic OS running on it.
It's important for my audio projects that I can play along the music I play on Fruity Loops and record what I play.
I figured, when I record on Audacity without running FL at the same time, everything works fine. But as soon as I have Fruity Loops opened I can't record properly anymore.
The recorded tracks sounds shattered and I can't use them.
I suspect the Vista Drivers and my soundcard just can't handle both at a time.
Or is it something else? Is there anything I can do? Get a USB sound card?
Help would really be appreciated.
Thanks in advance!

I have no experience of Fruity Loops - but I suspect that a USB soundcard may help you - I use a USB soundcard to record streaming audio (But do make sure when you buy it that you can get your money back if it doesn't work).

See this sticky thread for reviews of USB soundcards that are known to work with Audacity: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=27&t=9477
