No sound all of a sudden (Vista)

Post by sfchapman » Fri Apr 24, 2009 11:34 am

Hi

I was happily playing with Audacity and then the sound stopped! I can play sound through EVERY other audio and audio/visual piece of software, but not Audacity.

The sound "bars" are going up and down as the music plays, but I can hear nothing!

Any ideas?!

I had a similar problem and these are the steps that I did that made it working

1. Right click on the speaker symbol in your taskbar and click on SOUNDS
2. Make sure you have audacity running with any type of audio loaded.
3. Click on the tab PLAYBACK and make sure your speakers are selected
4. Then click on the RECORDING tab... When you do this, you should see 3 options ... Microphone, line in and stereo mix.... if you only see 2, right click in the box and select SHOW DISABLED DEVICES... make sure that the stereo mix is selected.
5. Approve all changes then right click on the speaker symbol again and OPEN VOLUME MIXER. You will see the device and applications.
6. Raise the volume on audacity and close window.
7. Now go back to audacity, select PREFERENCES and make sure that the recording option is on MICROSOFT SOUND MAPPER - INPUT.

Now just click play and it should work. It worked for me... if it doesn't work... let me know and I'll be glad to help you.
