try again: MP3 exporting plugin not found

I installed Audacity and the MP3 dll (latest standard versions) on my:
- old pc AMD 801 MHz 768 MB with no problems under Windows XP Version 2002 SP3
- on my new pc AMD Athlon 64x2 Dual Core Processor 2.7 GHz 1.75 GB under Windows Vista Business
No problems, perfect.

Of course after a while I killed Vista (aaaaagh!! terrible OS!!) and installed XP Version 2002 SP3 on my new pc, installed Audacity with MP3 etc. again AND IT DOESN'T WORK!!
It doesn't recognize the dll (MP3 exporting plugin not found after Edit/Preferences/File formats/Find Library). I tried install/de-install/restart/etc. with all the experience of an old computer user (real programmers don't use Pascal..)
but IT DOESN'T WORK. Is it because it is an Acer installation? Help!

By the way: it installs in dutch on the old machine (works) and in english on the new one (doesn't work).

don't know why but it works 3 days later. maybe because of some registry cleanings (tried some tools) or because my son changed something in making his Ipod work.

Glad you got it working - but your posting begs a question.

If you are using iPods, why are you exporting to MP3? Why don't you export from Audacity as WAV and import those into iTunes as AAC (Apple's own proprietary format)?

Bitrate for bitrate (and size for size) AAC is generally reckoned to offer better audio quality than MP3.

Thanks for the tip. I'll inform my son. For me, MacIntosh is something from a different world ;)

Me too - I'm a PC/Windows person, but iTunes runs very happily on both my PCs and feeds my iPods well ...
