Hello,
I recorded recently an interview for my work in a wav file but unfortunately there is a lot of background noise and it's very difficult to transcribe it. Strangely there was no noise in the room and I fear that this was down to me pressing a wrong button in the Sony digital voice recorder (it worked fine in the subsequent interviews).
I downloaded Audacity 1.2.6 for Windows but cannot figure out whether it is possible to reduce the noise.
I would be really extremely grateful if you let me know whether I can do something with Audacity to save the interview as it is very important to my work. Any suggestion, advice would be very welcome.
many thanks!

Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.
The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Fortunately, there is a tutorial written to address this.

We do warn people that the noise reduction in Audacity 1.3 is enormously better than the one in 1.2.
