Transferring file to audacity only showingin Mono

Post by funktifeyeno » Fri Apr 17, 2009 7:42 am

Hi

I'm having a recurring problem with Audacity.

When I transfer a track to Audacity (I use it for editing purposes) the track will only show in Mono, even though it is a Stereo track.

I can play the track through other sources and it will always play in stereo, but will only show in mono in audacity.

Any ideas

Thanks

D

And how do you know that it is a stereo file?

yeh, it's a stereo file

I've taken it from my itunes (checked info that's it' stereo), dragged + dropped onto my desktop, then dragged + dropped into audacity

Turns into mono track

If you right click on the file on your desktop, then select "properties" you should be able to see what the file type is, the number of audio channels, bit rate/sample rate, and various other information.

Appologies if this is too obvious - but I found this post when trying solve the same problem. After some reading I worked out that the Audio I/o tab in preferences was hidden - so go to Edit ->Preferences and enlarge that box (pull on the lower right corner)until you can see all the tabs at the top and the go to the AudioI/O and choose 2 channels from the drop down.
