I apologize if this topic has already been covered, but I have searched the boards and can't seem to find an exact match-

I have an HP desktop with "Sound Effect Manager" - not "RealTek HD Sound Effect Manager", as such I don't have the multi-streaming option available. I have set the Sound Effect Manager to Digital Audio @ 48 khz, and Audacity to the same, however regardless of whether I select "Microsoft Sound Mapper" or "RealTek HD Digital Input" I get the error message to select the correct input/rate. Does anyone know if there is a way to configure Sound Effect Manager so as to make it compatible with Audacity? I have used Audacity on a number of computers and been able to configure it correctly with few issues, but this PC has thwarted me every time I've tried to change an option/feature.

A good first stab at this would be 44100, 16-bit, Stereo. That's the Music CD audio standard and just about everybody supports it.

Does the sound card work with any sound application? Does it capture with Windows Sound Recorder?

Windows Sound Recorder
Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Entertainment

Capture a clip and Right-Click > Properties > Advanced and make Windows tell you what it is.
