I have searched some resources without finding an answer: When I try opening a file (mp3) and want to play it I just hear a short distorted sound (as if the song was extremely accelerated). I have tried to change some parameters but being a newbee I do not seem to solve this problem (on another PC all works well without problems). Could someone please help me?

Make sure that it really is an MP3 and not a WMA file or some other unsupported file type.
You can use the free "SUPER" format converter from erightsoft to convert most media file types. Downloading Super is a bit of a "link jungle" but it is worth the effort.
