Audactiy with Presonus Firepod

Post by wheelerscloud » Sun Apr 12, 2009 3:53 pm

hello, I've got a Presonus Firepod which I would like to use with Audacity. I have previously used the Cubase LE which came with it, but recently had my computer worked on and lost this software in the process. Unfortunately the CD's which came with it are in another state. I should be able to get them eventually, but as I have enjoyed wave editing with audacity I thought I would look into it.

Questions:
1) Will I need any additional software to use my Firepod with Audacity at this point?
2) Can someone explain (and/or help to locate tutorials) how to get the firepod 'set up' with audacity, and whatever else I need to do to begin recording with it?

Thanks so much for any support you can offer!

You will need to have "Windows Drivers" installed for Audacity to recognise the sound card - Audacity does not support ASIO drivers.

There is a lot of on-line help available on the Audacity wiki - the links to "Tips" and "Tutorials" at the top of this page are a good place to start.

There are no Audacity help files specifically for the Firepod, but in terms of getting it running, the most important settings are in "Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O" and "Edit menu > Preferences > Quality". Make sure that you have the correct device selected for recording and playback, and that the selected bit depth, sample rate and number of channels are correct.

thanks!

as far as drivers go, this download page popped up on a google search:
http://www.nodevice.com/

I assume that 'sound' is the category I need, but I'm not really sure if that's so, or what is 'trusted' content to download. Do you have a recommendation?

The correct Windows drivers would have been on the original disk(s), but are probably also downloadable from the manufacturers web site. If you can't find the appropriate drivers on their web site, then contact them- they should be available.
