No Sound in Audacity while recording

Can't hear the turntable through the computer speakers while it's recording. I've enabled software playthrough and followed all instructions on the audacity website/tutorials and still can't get any sound while I'm recording an LP (very frustrating trying to que the song). It saves and exports o.k as an mp3, but I just can't hear anything while I'm recording. I'm running Windows Vista and using Audacity 1.2.6.

I've also tried using different playback/recording devices on the drop down list, and still no luck. Using 16 bit 44100 rate.

SOLVED THE PROBLEM... Switch on USB turntable and connect to computer BEFORE you open Audacity.
