Dog repeller sound

Post by Dimis » Fri Apr 03, 2009 7:05 pm

Hi first post here!
I have some serious issues with stray and wild dogs in my area... :|
I was wondering if a generated ultrasonic sound will keep them away when approaching my house and try to attack my children...
I have s serious fence and all but they come too close and we are realy scared...
As I don't know much about sound is there an ultrasound that I can produce in Audacity, save it and loop it so it is played when my kids are out to keep them safe if possible?
ANy help would be appreciated... :geek:

So as not to also work as a child repeller (children will usually have hearing that is far more sensitive to high frequencies than adults) the frequency will need to be around 20kHz, but normal loudspeakers are not designed to work at such high frequencies. It may be more effective to purchase a hardware device - there are many available, such as this one: http://www.maplin.co.uk/Module.aspx?Mod ... &U=strat15

If you are, or you know anyone that is handy at DIY electronics, you could try making a simple 20kHz oscillator circuit and driving a pair of piezo horns with it. Alternatively, if the dogs pose a danger, can you not get the local authorities to take any action?
