I recorded a some old cassettes into Audacity but exported them as 32 bit WAV instead of 16 and didn't save the project files. Went to burn the WAV's as an audio CD and Media player won't burn them. I guess it's the fact they are not 16 bit. I can't figure out how to convert them from 32 to 16 bit in Audacity. Any ideas?

Yeah, trying to burn an audio CD with 32 bit WAVs wouldn't work. If you were using Audacity 1.3, I could tell you how to convert a 32-bit WAV into a 16-bit WAV. What I'm confused about, though, is how did you manage to export 32-bit WAVs using Audacity 1.2? I didn't know that was possible. If it weren't for my confusion over that, I would say that the way to convert a 32-bit WAV to a 16-bit WAV using Audacity 1.2 is to simply open the 32-bit WAV and then choose Export As WAV. --Allen

Amazing but true. 32-bit floating has been the standard format in Audacity 1.3 and 1.2. It burns people all the time and that's one of the things you need to change almost immediately if you're going to do simple editing or captures.

There was something about trying to convert inside Audacity -- it's not as straightforward as you would think. But I think if you set Audacity preferences to 44100, 16-bit, Stereo, then the project and any exports should be 16-bit.

Export a WAV file and File > Properties > Advanced or Extra and see what Windows thinks.

The default Export format for uncompressed audio was 16bit Microsoft PCM WAV.
To change the export format, go to;

Edit menu > Preferences > File Formats
