missing selection bar

Post by julie fast » Wed Apr 01, 2009 4:08 am

Hi,

I don't have a Selection Bar on my stable version. I have a blank screen underneath my recording. I reloaded the program- I have looked at all of the menus and it's simply missing! The view drop down button lets me select gives me a drop down menu that says set selection format- but I can only see some info at the very bottom of the screen next to the project rate. It looks like I'm missing an entire portion of the screen- I have the ebook on how to use the program and my screen doesn't match the screen shots at all.

I have no way of seeing the selection start, end/length features.

I have vista- but as much as I dislike it- I don't think it's the problem!

I really want to get my podcast recorded!

And one more thing- the upper right drop down menu where I chose a microphone is blank as well.

Thanks in advance for any advice. Julie

Try updating to Audacity 1.3 - this resolves most of the Vista issues.

Hello,

thank you Steve. I downloaded the beta 1.3 version and it took care of the problem... but. I now can't get the LAME software to unzip. Vista says it can't open a .dll file.

i am so frustrated. Do I have to use LAME to create MP3's or has it changed for the beta version.

Does anyone have vista - and were you able to download the LAME file?

I just want to record a simple podcast! Julie

Hi Julie. Yes, Audacity requires Lame for exporting MP3s, and Audacity 1.3.7 requires a specific version of Lame. You will find full details here: http://audacityteam.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=16&t=9175

Hello Steve,

Thanks again for your reply. I have tried every version on LAME - and my computer still says it doesn't recognize the .dll file and can't open it. I downloaded the jzip and it couldn't open it as well. I have tried all versions and have restarted the computer, etc. I work a lot with computers, so I do understand the problem, I just have no idea how to fix it. I have looked for .dll extractors and have not had luck.

Has anyone else had trouble with VISTA and LAME? besides the fact that vista is lame. ha

Julie,

a workaround for you would be to search t'interweb for a standalone MP3 converter (you should be able to find a free one - you can even use iTunes which is free to download to do the conversion).

You would then need to export your tracks as WAV files and then pass them through the converter.

Let's clear the decks a bit.

Do a search for Lame on your computer and delete or rename any old versions that you find.

Then download the .exe file from here: http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/

(see near the top of the page, just below the Google Search box, where it says:
For Audacity on Windows:
Lame_v3.98.2_for_Audacity_on_Windows.exe (Issues?
Some help HERE)
If you have problems downloading it, click on the link where it says "HERE".

When you have downloaded the .exe file, run it and it will install the correct version of Lame for Audacity 1.3.7

Then go to the Import/Export section of preferences and direct Audacity to the newly installed .dll

lame download not working

Post by julie fast » Thu Apr 09, 2009 2:58 am

Hi Steve,

once again , thanks. I followed what you suggested exactly and the same thing happened- the file is downloading as a .dll file- there is no .exe or anything to extract.

It downloads as lame_enc.dll

No matter what I do- my comptuer says it can't open this file. It looks like the unis000 file is working.

I have disabled all antivirus/spy sweep software- so there are no download issues.

When I download the file- should it download on my computer as a .exe file? If so, that is not happening- which must be my problem.

Thanks again= I have to get this to work! Julie

This is the download link for "Lame_v3.98.2_for_Audacity_on_Windows.exe" file for Audacity 1.3.7
As you can see from the name, it is an "EXE" file.
It is on the web page: http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/

Download link for Lame for Audacity 1.3.7

LEFT click on the link.
If you are using Internet Explorer you may find that it blocks the download and shows a security warning near the top of the window - you must tell Internet Explorer to allow the download.
If You cannot get Internet Explorer to download it, install a web browser that works properly, such as Firefox.
(Microsoft Internet Explorer = / Firefox = :D )

Hi Steve,

I am giving it another try! I went to another page with a different download and it seemed to work- and then another problem popped up. I recorded a file. I now want to export it as an MP3. When I use the file drop down menu- I don't have an 'export as mp3' selection- I just have 'export' and 'export selection.' when I try those- they are more about editing metadata.

When will this work! I am going bonkers!

If you have any idea on this- it's appreciated. If this doesn't work- do you have other software that you recommend? I appreciate your help very much. Julie
