Audacity 1.2.x is now obsolete. Please use the current Audacity 2.1.x version.

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

I've had to change my sound card, because I couldn't input cassettes any more.
My new sound card is, xtreme sound pci, now i can use the input for my casettes again. But my audacity doesn't recognize it: so I down loaded a the new version and still have the same problem.
I did go into the preferences and high lighted the sound card as the input device and still no sound.
Does any one have a suggestion to fix this problem?
I have Windows XP.

Try recording (60 seconds) with Windows Sound Recorder.
If that works, set Audacity to use the "Microsoft Sound Mapper" (Edit menu > Preferences > Audio I/O).

If "Sound Recorder" does not work, you will need to fix your computer sound system (possibly a driver problem).
