Hello,
I've recorded a multi-track song using Audacity. When using Audacity to listen to it, there's no distortion. But after exporting it to a WAV file, there are parts of the song which are distorted/crackling. I've tried a bunch of things to correct this, including exporting using almost every possible WAV encoding, plus OGG ... but the distortion in the exported file remains. Would anyone have insight into why this might be happening, and how to resolve it?
Thanks,
Robert

The final version of Audacity for Windows 98/ME is the legacy 2.0.0 version.

Re: exporting - distortion only in the exported WAV file
How about when you mix down for the export, Audacity adds everything up. In your case, everything added up works out to over 100%.
Apply the Amplify tool and reduce everything -- all the tracks uniformly -- by 6dB. Export again.
