Problems with skipping and infact getting it to work!

Okay im a DJ and im using Audacity to record my monthly albums for my site. but the problem i have, and i have the same problem with every recording software i've tried but audacity gives me the best results. the problem is that the recording skips around every 30 seconds. but then i read some tips on Wiki on how to improve recording and i have followed them. minimising the program when i record, turn off any background programmes such as anti-virus etc and other things. i also record in mono (which sucks but does improve the skipping issue). so now it skips about once every few minutes or so. so i was wondering if anyone could help me out in either what i should do to stop the skipping or, tell me any other software that works better for recording 1 and a half remixes. But now my latest problem is that these past few days the programme has been crashing. i finish recording and when i press the stop button to finish recording. i then get a message popping up saying that Audacity has stopped working and Windows is looking for a solution (well, something along those lines) and then it just closes the programme by itself and i lose my recording. so can anyone plese tell me whats up? i dont think its my sound card because i am also producing, using FL Studio 8 XXL Edition. and all i had to do was install a Asio 2 sound driver and my sound card can handle real time audio streaming and rendering easily. and im pretty sure audio recording is less hardware intensive than audio rendering and streaming. so please, can anyone give me help?
Here's my Laptop specs if it helps.
Samsung R510
2Ghz Intel Dual Core CPU
120GB HDD
2GB RAM
OS - Windows Vista Home Premium.
Because its a laptop, it doesnt have a blue stereo Line-In jack thats needed to record. so i had to buy a cheap £20 5.1 external USB 2.0 sound card. here is the link to the site if you need more info on it http://www.sweex.com/communicatie.php?s ... rtikel=750
So please guys, any help is badly appreciated. (sorry about the long post)
